About Our Program

Mission, Goals, and Strengths

The goal of the program is to deliver unequaled learning opportunities in geriatric medicine so that our graduates will succeed anywhere in the world as highly competent and compassionate geriatricians.

Our program aims include:

  1. Produce board-certified graduates who are competent geriatricians and who can practice independently in an academic or a private practice setting.
  2. Model interprofessionalism by working within health care teams.
  3. Provide clinical care and outreach to the community through a wide variety of clinical settings and educational opportunities.
  4. Provide opportunities for quality projects and research based on the goals of each individual fellow.

Virginia Tech Partnership

Residents and fellows work closely with the students, medical educators, and research scientists from the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC. This partnership leverages Virginia Tech’s world-class strength in basic sciences, bioinformatics and engineering with Carilion Clinic’s highly experienced medical staff and rich history in graduate medical education.
